You don’t buy an FIA helmet based on a hunch. Standard, discipline, size, equipment: here are the 5 points to check before placing your order, whether you are deciding between ZAMP, Stilo, Bell or GT2i.
1. The standard required by your regulations
It is your championship regulations that set the minimum standard, not the brand. In practice:
- FIA 8859-2024: the current standard whenever the HANS device is mandatory, both in circuit racing and rallying. At ZAMP: RZ-70F, RZ-61F, RZ-63F and the jet RZ-19F.
- FIA 8860-2018: the strictest, required notably in GT3, WEC, WRC and World Rallycross. At ZAMP: RZ-88C and RZ-88O carbon.
- Snell SA2025: the standard for adult karting.
- Snell/FIA CMR2016: mandatory in karting for those under 15.
The details for each standard can be found on our helmet standards page. To decide between the two FIA standards, read FIA 8859 or 8860: which helmet for which competition?
2. Full-face or jet: your discipline decides
In circuit racing and single-seaters, full-face helmets are mandatory. In rallying, many crews choose a jet helmet for comfort and communication with the co-driver: that is the role of the RZ-19F, FIA 8859-2024 approved. All our helmets by discipline: auto helmets, rally helmets, karting helmets.
3. The right size, down to the centimeter
A helmet that is too large will move upon impact, while one that is too small becomes unbearable after 20 minutes. Measure your head circumference just above your eyebrows, with the tape measure lying flat, then use the calculator in our size guide. Note: the RZ-19F runs large, so choose one size down.
4. HANS and clips: to be included in the budget
An FIA 8859 or 8860 helmet is worn with a front head restraint system. Our helmets are delivered without HANS clips: add the HANS clips and, if needed, your HANS device.
5. Radio, visor, accessories: think complete
Rallying or endurance: plan your communication kit at the time of purchase. For vision, choose a compatible visor (Z-20 or Z-24 depending on the model). The easiest way: our configurator, which only offers items compatible with your helmet.
